It is better to hasten to offer the sacrifice after the Eid prayer, as the Messenger peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him used to do, then the first thing he would eat on the day of Eid would be meat from his sacrifice. Islamic Relief has been carrying out Qurbani since We make sure that the most vulnerable families are prioritised for Qurbani distribution, that families receive the best possible quality meat through our rigorous animal selection criteria, and that animals are transported and slaughtered humanely.
By managing the whole transportation and logistics network and complying with Sharia, strict hygiene standards cover the handling, packing and distribution of all meat.
This is why prices vary at the local level. Buying from the local community will benefit the traders and farmers, as well as the local economy.
Locally sourced produce is usually the cheapest way to carry out your Qurbani and it minimises our carbon footprint. Your money goes further with Islamic Relief because we do not spend money on importing, unless we cannot avoid it. Some charities may charge different prices to carry out your Qurbani because of a difference in suppliers, their project implementation methods and their administration costs. Islamic Relief is one of the largest global organisations carrying out Qurbani.
With 30 years of experience, we have developed an efficient, cost-effective and reliable process that results in quality meat packs. But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals. And do not shave your heads until the sacrificial animal has reached its place of slaughter. And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head [making shaving necessary must offer] a ransom of fasting [three days] or charity or sacrifice.
And whoever cannot find [or afford such an animal] — then a fast of three days during Hajj and of seven when you have returned [home]. You are allowed to offer more than one sacrifice. A thorough needs assessment will be conducted to objectively identify the weighting and priority of each of the above criteria. These are then applied when selecting beneficiaries to ensure we reach the most needy without bias or subjectivity in selection. It is the policy of Islamic Relief to distribute only one Qurbani meat pack to each family regardless of family size.
By giving Qurbani, you can help vulnerable people in need, ensuring that they have a vital source of protein for the blessed days of Eid al-Adha. Reap the rewards of the blessed days of Dhul Hijjah, give Qurbani today. Therefore, parents must complete Qurbani contributions on behalf of their children where necessary. One of the most important Qurbani rules surrounds when the sacrifice must be completed. Islamic guidelines state that Qurbani should be performed between the 10th and 12th days of Dhul Hijjah, the final month in the Islamic calendar.
This is particularly important as Eid ul-Adha takes place across this three day period and Qurbani should be completed after the initial Eid ul-Adha prayers on the first day. In total, this gives Muslims three days to complete their Qurbani correctly. Even if an individual has taken part in an animal sacrifice before these three days, they must do so again during the Eid ul-Adha celebrations for their Udhiya to be considered valid.
The health and condition of the animal is also very important. Animals that are weak, blind, physically disabled, or those who are young, have broken horns or no teeth are ineligible.
Regarding the types of animals that can be used for Qurbani, people generally opt for a goat. However, sheep, cows, bulls, buffalo and camels are also acceptable. Saying the Takbeer at the time of sacrifice is paramount to ensuring a successful and acceptable Qurbani. Bismillahi Allahu Akbar in the name of Allah, Allah is Great are the correct words to say at that moment.
